Random Thoughts

My column this week is on my thoughts on Stephanie Gatschet (Madison North),
her role and the actress that portrays her. I do not know if she was ever on another show or not. I am also glad
to hear she has been asked and will be going with AMC in the move out
West.
I have to start off by saying that she is an extremely beautiful
young woman and fits the role so perfectly. I like the fact that, except
with her father, she has always stood up to all the other characters she
has encountered, whether it was Jesse or Zach, or Angie and Randi.
I realize that the storyline was written a certain way to play out.
However, I think the whole Hubbard clan missed the boat on how to have dealt
with her. When the whole storyline started, she came across as nothing more that
a spoiled brat, ignored by her husband and very bitter. We have witnessed, however, that what motivates Madison is her
need to be loved. Something she never got from her family or husband.
She is obviously jealous of the loving relationship between Jesse and
Angie as well as Randi and Frankie. She also yearns for the family
support that the Hubbard family gives each other. If Jesse had known
this from the beginning, perhaps besides protecting Randi, he would have
helped Madison out as well. Then this whole blackmail plot would never
have happened.
Madison reminds me of another popular character and how she behaved
when she first came to PV, that being Greenlee Smythe. When Greenlee
came to town, she was spoiled and nasty. She blackmailed Bianca about
outing her as a lesbian, she was terrible to Gillian. She even, if I
remember during the libidizone mess, tossed Laura over the railing of
the ship. She outed Kendall during the Cambias trial in court, showing
Kendall was faking the pregnancy. She disrupted Erica and Jack’s first
wedding, announcing Jack as her real father (and that Erica knew all
about it). Even when the role was recast with Sabine Singh, Greenlee was
terrible to Annie (and everyone else) on her return to town.
Greenlee finally matured after the whole bomb shelter episode and
became a nicer person but still keeping that edge that could let her
stand up to the force of nature that is Erica Kane.
I hope that character of Madison North will grow and mature and
follow a path similar to that of Greenlee. I think the actress has a
lot of potential in the long haul and if the stories are true that
Rebecca Budig (Greenlee) is returning, they could have a great love/hate
relationship. Especially if Alicia Minshew (Kendall) is not going to return to
the role after being on maternity leave.
I will be back next week with more
observations and questions.
Well, that’s about all for now. Have a great week.
I would love to hear from any of my readers.
